On your end, the trick is to stay active and engaged.  Talk to as many people as possible – Network, Network, Network!  Find out what businesses do well in certain economic environments and target them as prospective employers.  Also, do not blindly apply to every job you come across.  Know about the position you are applying to, and give the client a summary of why you’re the only candidate for
the job.

As a whole it is the Mind, Body and Attitude. The best rule of thumb for a professional mind is having the ability to work in a laid back atmosphere and still get things done. Professional body means your attire.  Wear a suit to interviews.  If that would raise suspicion with your current employer then be sure to look sharp.  Attitude is a very big image in the workplace. If you’ve got a great attitude towards your job and you are open to input as well as providing input.  Having a great attitude towards your job and others in the workplace is very essential. Lead by example and you will be surprised by how many others are willing to follow.

• Do not be afraid to ask questions about the project or position; you want to understand what you are possibly getting into.
  
• Be on time! Or, just be 12-20 minutes early in case any paperwork needs to be completed.
• Bring your resume.  Some interviewers ask for your resume even though they could’ve printed one in order to check your preparedness.
• Do not be too longwinded and do not be too brief either. Answer the question they ask. If they ask you to go into detail then do so.
• Interviewers will often ask about your past employer; keep the negative experiences to yourself.  If you tell your interviewer ‘how much you hated your last employer’ they are likely to think that there is a very high chance you would say the same about them.  Stay positive!
• Follow up but don’t be annoying about it. The hiring process is rather lengthy. Hiring is only a portion of the projects Hiring Managers are currently working on. Be patient, and give it a minimum of two weeks to follow up.
• KNOW THE COMPANY!  Do your research.  Know what they do, how they do it, and how your specific skill set and experience can contribute to the company.
