Enterprise Application Services

Enterprise applications consolidate, maintain and store information from human resources to accounting to customer and emloyee information across the organization. Bluware's focus in this area is threefold: ERP implementation/upgrade, application integration, and custom application development.

For customers who want a full Enterprise Resource Planning system across the organization, Bluware offers implementation and upgrade of Oracle E-Business Suite. We are a certified Oracle Solutions partner, and our consultants have broad and deep expertise in both funtional and technical aspects of implementation. We can also source consultants to assist with PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, and SAP. We follow best practices in our management of these projects, ensuring success for our clients, and ending with trained and satisfied end users. Our work in this area includes a successful implementation of Oracle E-Business Suite for a domestic pipeline company to consolidate their accounting, reporting, and customer management into one system. We have also completed an implementation for an industrial manufacturing company, including developing customized reporting to accommodate the specific requirements of their business processes.

For clients who prefer to address their enterprise needs through integration of best of breed applications, Bluware offers application integration services to configure the applications to work seamlessly together. An example of our integration work includes integration of LiveLink's document management system with Oracle Financials. This project enabled the accounting department of a large shipping company to access documentation related to payables and expense reports with the click of a button, improving process, timing, and control for this critical business function.

Bluware has written a wide range of applications to solve scientific, engineering, and business problems. For example, we worked with a large energy company to write an application to simplify and automate their unwieldy manual process of booking month end accruals. We also wrote a custom application for a multinational upstream oil and gas company to generate 3D maps of the subsurface, assisting their geoscientists in determining where the company should drill for oil.

Our development services are scoped and worked in the United States, with our clients directing whether the consultants work from our site or theirs. For clients who are interested in the lower cost of an offshore solution, we offer offshore resources who work on development under project leadership in the United States.

IT Problem Solving

Bluware's clients rely on our consultants to solve a wide variety of IT problems. In a recent meeting regarding a software testing problem, a client responded to questions from his team about how to handle the situation by saying, "We'll give that to the RSGs." He was referring to three on-site Bluware consultants as "Really Smart Guys" to whom they send the problems others can't solve. Examples of the types of problems that we work on fall into numerous areas including:

System performance - We solve system performance problems by sending broadly skilled trouble shooters to pinpoint the source of problems and then sending consultants with expertise in that specific area. Whether your performance problems are in the database, the applications, the network, or some other location, Bluware has consultants who can engineer the optimal solutions to increase efficiency and streamline performance. An example of this work is that a client called Bluware when it took a report 4.5 days to run before it crashed the system. Using strategic indices, Bluware diagnosed the problem and reduced the report run time to 45 seconds, saving a career in the process.

Data Center - Our consultants solve data center problems helping contain server sprawl, reduce hardware cost, improve uptime, and speed up server provisioning time. We assisted a large chemical company in planning and implementing the migration of their data center to a new site following an acquisition. The move was completed in accordance with our orderly plan with minimal disruption to operations.

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning - We take clients through the full cycle of planing for business continuity and disaster recovery, generating a solution customized for each client's situation. Bluware's ideas have dramatically lowered the cost of disaster recovery preparedness for our clients, while increasing the scope of the information that is backed up and recoverable. A large financial services company tested our disaster revovery plan in a recent hurricane situation and was able to seamlessly fail over real time to a remote site, smoothly continuing business operations.

Web Services - Bluware designes web sites, and because of our broad applications integration experience, we're able to tie the activity on those sites directly into the client's ERP environment. For example, Bluware designed a web store for a nationwide retailer of consumer products, tying orders on the web directly into the invoicing, inventory, and customer relationship management systems.

Talent Sourcing - Finding the right person for a job can be an enormous problem for companies that need specialized talent. Bluware's network of consultants gives us access to some of the most skilled IT resources in the business. When our clients need contract or permanent staff members, Bluware provides them with a choice of candidates with the right skills for the job. An example of Bluware's skill in this area is indicated in our assisting a development team that had a large number of talented contributors who were having difficulty functioning as a team. Bluware recommended hiring a manager to coordinate the team efforts and located a person with knowledge of the industry, expertise in software development, an ability to manage extremely bright developers, and the temperament and soft skills to manage the social process of software development. Hiring this manager has been transformative for the team in terms of morale, work quality, and timeliness of delivery.
