WHAT IS BLUWARE VDS?
Bluware VDS is a random-access storage structure that supports up to six-dimensional data and can scale to multi-terabyte data sets without any impact on performance. It is used to represent E&P data types such as horizons (2D), seismic lines (2D), pre-stack volumes (4D), and post-stack volumes (3D). The highly compressed and optimized random access VDS structure provides faster access to extremely large data sets.

LOSSLESS & ADAPTIVE COMPRESSION
When Bluware true lossless compression is applied to data, the result is a version that is 25 percent smaller than SEG-Y file formats. Lossless VDS can be converted back to a binary comparable version of the original SEG-Y format. Our industry-tested compression provides the ability to choose how much compression will be applied to the original SEG-Y when creating a VDS format. This results in significant reduction in storage footprint without impacting workflows.
Bluware’s adaptive streaming capability allows applications to select any quality level, which is lower than the level used to create the VDS format without the need to create a copy of the data. Only the region of data at the selected quality level is returned, yielding extremely fast data access.
RANDOM ACCESS PATTERNS
Bluware VDS supports random-access patterns, which is the key to enabling highly intensive workflows such as interactive deep learning.
The Bluware VDS architecture is simple to deploy with no servers required, making it cloud-ready, cost-effective, and highly transportable.
OPTIMIZED FOR GPU AND MULTI-THREADING
Bluware VDS is fully optimized. By leveraging predictive reading, GPU processing, and multi-threading, this results in fast data performance.
Direct API access makes typical workflows easy, such as selecting trace headers.
BLUWARE VDS ENABLES:
The Open Subsurface Data Universe™ (OSDU) Forum consists of large oil and gas operators and service organizations focused on developing a standard data platform that will bring together exploration, development, and wells data. This will result in faster delivery of capabilities, and lower implementation and lifecycle costs across the subsurface community.
Bluware has contributed it’s VDS technology, called OpenVDS, to the OSDU and has been adopted as the main and preferred format for seismic data by OSDU. This ensures a true openness and scalability for the VDS file system.
